Weekly News – November 2, 2018

A tidbit from history:
Benjamin Franklin’s “An Economical Project,” written in 1784, is the earliest known proposal to “save” daylight. It was whimsical in tone, advocating laws to compel citizens to rise at the crack of dawn to save the expense of candlelight:

Every morning, as soon as the Sun rises, let all the bells in every church be set ringing: and if that is not sufficient, let cannon be fired in every street to wake the sluggards effectually… . Oblige a man to rise at four in the morning, and it is probable that he will go willingly to bed at eight in the evening.”

We’re done saving daylight for this year!   SET YOUR CLOCKS BACK ONE HOUR BEFORE GOING TO BED ON SATURDAY EVENING!

At each worship service this weekend, we will be revealing our new Grace Church Mission Statement:
engage. empower. expand.  Pastor Bill’s message is entitled “Engage” and uses the sermon text Luke 19:1-10.  Over the next three weeks, we will focus on ways for us to live into the new mission statement.  Please join us!

So far this year, our Grace Church Food Bank has assisted more than 1500 individuals with groceries.  Because of your generosity, we are able to purchase meats, fresh vegetable and fruit, milk, butter, eggs and cheese.  We depend on donations of non-perishables to fill the many requests for help.  On Sunday, November 4, we will kick off our Annual Food Bank Ingathering.  Grocery bags will be placed in the pews for you to take with you.  Please fill these bags with non-perishable items, and bring them with you to church on November 11 or November 18. Trucks will be in the front and back of the church to drop off your food items.  Our youth group will be available to help carry your donations to the trucks.  Thanks in advance for your on-going support of this vital outreach ministry.

Bring a STUFFED ANIMAL to church!  Women’s Fellowship is collecting “Love Bears” and other stuffed animals of all sizes to give to children facing surgery, lab work, and other procedures at IRMC.  November is “Love Bears Month,” and there will be a collection bin in the Welcome Center beginning this week.  Help comfort a child in a tough situation!  (Stuffed animals must be new and have their store tags attached.)  “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” – 1 Corinthians 13:7

Laugh Line:

The Pastor came to visit the other day. He said that at my advanced age I should be thinking of the hereafter.
I told him, “Oh, I do it all the time.”

“No matter where I am – in the living room, upstairs, in the kitchen, or down in the basement, I am always asking myself: ‘Now, what am I here after?'”

Have a great day!  See you in church.
