Weekly News – March 9, 2019

Greetings, Friends

What a wonderful Ash Wednesday service we had in the sanctuary to begin this season of Lent–a time when we can give up who we have been for who we can become.   Even amidst the construction, limited lighting in the hallways, and a bit of dust on just about everything, the message, music and spirit of togetherness was so evident in the service.  We look forward to seeing you in worship throughout this Lenten journey.

Although the Renovation Project has created some necessary–but temporary–changes in class and meeting rooms, entrances to the church, and a bit of dirt, we hope you feel the same excitement we are experiencing about the improvements being made.  It’s going to be amazing, and we are so anxious to see the results.  This is all possible because of your commitment.  One important thing we’d like to share:  There were 87 children, teachers and workers in Children’s Worship last Sunday!   Together, we are making a difference for our kids.  Thank you for your continued support of our Capital Campaign.

Capital Campaign Update
As of Wednesday, March 6th , the total amount pledged was $255,740.
Cash received so far was $113,045.

Total cash and stock receipts were $170,281

Your participation in this remodeling project is much appreciated.

The Dynamic Duos Sermon Series continues this weekend with a focus on Deborah and Gideon.  The sermon text comes from Judges 2:16-19.

Brendon Curry’s Kingdom Assignment:  Brendon Curry is a member of Grace Church and our Contemporary Worship Team.  He is an IUP student involved in Campus Crusade.  Brendon was given $75 and asked to grow that seed money to further God’s kingdom. In searching for a special project in the community, Brendon discovered there was a need to raise funds for the Chevy Chase Community Center. There is a need to make necessary improvements to the first floor of the facility to create an atmosphere that is inviting and positive for those who are fed weekly at the Community Soup Kitchen.  To complete this project, money is needed to purchase paint, window coverings, new floor mats, etc… so that the work can be completed by mid-April.  Brendon has set a goal to collect $1000 for this project by the end of March. He is asking for donations to match his $75, but any donation will be greatly appreciated to support this cause. Checks may be written to the Chevy Chase Community Center.   Donations are tax deductible. Your support is greatly appreciated.   If you would like to support this cause, you may present your donation to Brendon this Sunday morning in the Welcome Center after the 9:00 and 11:00 services or you may contact Brendon at 724-549-2114.   Anyone who gives a $20 or more donation will receive a $5 gift card to Dairy Queen!
