Honk, Honk

  Good morning, friends.

As I walked into the office this morning, a huge flock of geese was noisily flying above me.  As a long-time member of the Honkers small group, I thought about the message in the card our group sent out to those we have prayed for over the years.   The card reads:

Geese fly at speeds up to 50 miles per hour.  They travel in a V formation because, as each bird flaps its wings, an updraft is created for the birds behind it.  They go 70 percent farther in a group than they can when flying alone.  Geese honk at each other…not as critics, but as encouragers.  Those in the rear sound off to exhort those up front to stay on course and maintain their speed.

Because we adopted geese as a symbol of encouragement, our small group became known as the Honkers.  We know that people—like geese—can go much farther together than they can alone.

Please know that we are lifting you up in prayer as we fly in formation with you.
                                                                                                           Honk, Honk!!

During this social distancing, we are unable to flock together with family and friends.  But it is vitally important to keep on encouraging each other to stay the course during this difficult time.  Many of us have a lot of extra time to fill, so why not spend an hour a day being an encourager by calling your friends and family members.  Share a funny story or reminisce a while.  Listen to what others are concerned about.  Offer to pray with them. Or, send a note of encouragement.  You can be an honorary Honker, too!!!

We will get through this together.  Honk, Honk!!
